Despite Clinton impeachment vote, Gingrich says President 'cannot obstruct justice'

A National Article 5

Deomcratic Sen. Dick Durbin said Friday that President Donald Trump will put the country at the "brink of a constitutional crisis" if he fires special counsel Robert Mueller. "If he wants to fire the Federal Bureau of Investigation director, all he has to do is fire him", Gingrich said during a brief speech at the National Press Club in Washington, D.C.

Those words, of course, do not square with perhaps the most famous vote Gingrich ever cast as a member of Congress - a vote in favor of the impeachment of then-President Bill Clinton.

Gingrich now says that unlike Clinton, Trump is the subject of a 'witch hunt'. Look, I've talked to college students regularly who say to me if they openly are for Trump, they get threatened. He encouraged the audience to read Arthur Miller's "The Crucible", saying "that's the mentality of the left right now".

The Roselle, Ill., product headlined the Bears rotation for four seasons and earned Second Team All-Ivy honors as a senior. Chapman did not pitch against the Indians this past season, but did go 2-for-4 with two RBI's in a 5-4 win over the Tribe.

"Under the Justice Department's rules, Mueller has his own obligation to recuse himself with anything involving Comey", Gingrich, the former Republican Georgia congressman, told Sean Hannity on Fox News.

Somebody said the other day, I thought this was a very good test.

Her comment came in response to Gingrich's complaint that Trump received negative media coverage. "Mueller is now clearly the tip of the deep state spear aimed at destroying or at a minimum undermining and crippling the Trump presidency", Gingrich tweeted Thursday. When Mueller was first hired by Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein in mid-May, after the initial firestorm surrounding Trump's abrupt firing of Comey, Gingrich expressed support, tweeting that Mueller's "reputation is impeccable for honesty and integrity".
