Theresa May faces ousting after United Kingdom election shock

British Prime Minister Theresa May will be forced to seek the support of a regional party in order to continue governing, after the general election she called backfired dramatically.

"What the country needs more than ever is certainty.it is clear that only the Conservative and Unionist Party has the legitimacy and ability to provide that" May said as she pushed to form a government with the backing of the Democratic Unionists.

Instead of opting for a post-election shuffle, the Prime Minister retained key figures in her cabinet.

She later announced that her top ministers, including finance minister Philip Hammond, foreign minister Boris Johnson and Brexit minister David Davis, would remain in their positions.

DUP leader Arlene Foster confirmed she will enter talks with May in an effort to pursue "stability" in Parliament, without giving further details on the conditions for the party's support.

Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn, who surprised members of his party with a stronger than expected campaign performance, called for May to resign.

"This will allow us to come together as a country and channel our energies towards a successful Brexit deal that works for everyone in this country - securing a new partnership with the European Union which guarantees our long-term prosperity".

The European Union's budget commissioner Guenther Oettinger said Friday he was unsure if Britain's negotiations about leaving the EU - known as "Brexit" - could begin on time after the Thursday election failed to elect a clear victor, according to a report by Reuters. European officials are anxious that the weaker position of the Conservatives make a breakdown in negotiations more likely. We know when they must end.

Her party colleagues are furious at the losses chalked up, blaming Mrs May for calling an unnecessary election three years ahead of time, for running a disastrous campaign centred on her and her "strong and stable leadership", and for an unpopular manifesto that was designed by her inner circle. May's gamble, extraordinary for there was no need to call a snap general election, has considerably reduced her authority and this will present problems in negotiating a clean exit from the EU.

Corbyn advised the humiliated prime minister to pack up and leave and "make way for a government that is truly representative of this country".

Labour performed above all expectations at the ballot box, winning 261 seats with one result yet to come.

But Mr Corbyn was not impressed with this arrangement and thought it lacked credibility.

09 de junio de 2017, 15:44London, Jun 9 (Prensa Latina) The British Labor Party leader, Jeremy Corbyn, considered today unbelievable the results of hiss party in the general elections held on Thursday, where they managed to add 29 new deputies to the parliament. The prime minister said she meant to form a government with the Democratic Unionists to form a government that would "provide certainty" and "lead Britain forward at this critical time for our country", according to the BBC. But that won't help May much, because she intentionally ensured that little of substance about Brexit was included in her party's manifesto. The official threat level from terrorism stands at "severe", the second-highest rating, indicating an attack is "highly likely". Several Conservative lawmakers, including Scottish Conservative leader Ruth Davidson, raised concerns over the DUP's opposition to same-sex marriage.
