President Donald Trump's recent announcement that the USA will withdraw from the Paris Agreement-adopted by almost 200 countries in 2015 and aimed at limiting global climate change-has created a sharp split between the United States and the other G7 countries on climate policy, which is on full display in the environment ministers' communique.

Gian Luca Galletti, Italy's environment minister, told reporters that there is a huge gap between the six countries and the USA on their stance toward the agreement, and the situation is unlikely to change anytime soon. "And we're going to persuade other states and do everything we can to get the whole United States of America fully supporting all the efforts needed to decarbonise America's economy - and, in fact, the world's economy".

Pruitt was one of the Paris accord's most vocal opponents within the Trump administration. The six other ministers reaffirmed their "strong commitment to the swift and effective implementation of the Paris Agreement" and welcomed "the continued support that the Paris Agreement has received from other countries, and subnational and non-state actors around the world".

"We are resetting the dialogue to say Paris is not the only way forward to making progress", Pruitt said in a statement.

"Cathy McMorris Rodgers posted her statement regarding President Trumps decision to leave the Paris climate accord on her Web page: "...

"Respective of the importance to engage with longstanding allies and key worldwide partners, we approached the climate discussions head on from a position of strength and clarity", he said in a statement.

The United States' current relations with our allies in Europe will be damaged further due to this move.

Canada's official summary of the phone call, issued on the day it occurred, states that the two leaders "agreed to continue working closely with like-minded partners to implement the historic Paris Agreement". McKenna says Canada has no interest in renegotiating the Paris climate change agreement in order to bring the United States back on board.

Other countries initially opposed the US proposal to include a footnote on its different climate change position, arguing that footnotes are for facts, according to the G6 delegate.

HELENA, Mont. - Congressman-elect Greg Gianforte avoided jail time after pleading guilty Monday to an election-eve assault on a reporter that turned the race for Montana's lone U.S. House seat into a full-fledged political spectacle.

Hulot said United States commitments on other environmental issues, notably cleaning up the world's plastic-choked oceans, were not in doubt, and the commitment of industry players to green technologies and renewable energy would not be affected by Trump's position.

Trump calls the pact unfair to the USA, saying it would hurt the economy while doing next to nothing to prevent global warming.
