Federal Grand Jury Indicts Accused NSA Leaker Reality Winner

Reality Winner has been charged with sending classified material to a news organization

Her mother and step-father have repeatedly pleaded for everyone to treat Reality Winner "fairly". They say they don't know what happened to it or what it might contain.

Winner's lawyer would not comment on his client and her connection to the leaks.

"My biggest fear in all of this, is that she's not going to get a fair trial", her mother Billie Winner-Davis said Tuesday in a CNN interview.

A criminal complaint charges that Winners violated the Espionage Act, which prohibits "disloyal" forms of speech, by "removing classified material from a government facility and mailing it to a news outlet", according to the HuffPost.

The details in the case suggest that she is the source for the Intercept's report on Monday about a May 5 NSA intelligence report that describes two cyberattacks carried out by Russian government hackers against a USA voting software supplier before the 2016 election. In numerous news stories, unnamed sources allege victor gave it to a reporter at The Intercept.

The US attorney also alleged that victor once searched on her work computer, while she was still in the Air Force, for the phrase: "Do top secret computers detect when flash drives are inserted?" Winner's family is now seeking her release pending a trial. "Everybody in America knows what she looks like at this point".

"She's not a flight risk", said Gary Davis, Winner's stepfather. Augusta area attorney Titus Nichols was initially appointed to represent victor at her initial appearance on Monday. Davis said she became a linguist, speaking Arabic and Farsi, and spent four years assigned to the NSA at Fort Meade, Maryland.

Victor is a former Air Force linguist who now works as a US government contractor.

Maharashtra SSC Class 10th Result 2017: To be declared shortly at mahresult

"She served her country, she is a veteran", Davis said. But the NSA has operated a $286 million complex in Augusta since 2012.

A detention hearing is scheduled for Thursday afternoon.

Though she was active on social media, victor doesn't appear to have discussed her work online.

In addition to the electronics, federal agents took from Winner's home a country handbook on Iran, a nondisclosure agreement, two spiral notebooks and pieces of paper with notes, mail addressed to victor and a Georgia Power bill.

Winner, 25, a government contractor with the National Security Agency (NSA), was charged with leaking the document to The Intercept, an online news platform, according to NBC News.

The Intercept's report described new details about Russian efforts to hack voting systems in the United States a week prior to the 2016 presidential election.

The document that victor allegedly leaked was a report detailing attempts by hackers from Russian military intelligence to penetrate a company that sells voter registration software as well as local election officials.

Bynum reported from Savannah, Georgia.
