Trump not planning to invoke executive privilege to block Comey testimony

As Comey's open hearing before the Senate Intelligence Committee looms closer, the Trump administration has sent mixed signals over whether it's looking into the possibility of invoking executive privilege to prevent Comey from disclosing the content of his conversations with Trump.

The White House suggested on Friday afternoon there was a possibility that President Donald Trump would try to invoke executive privilege to block former Federal Bureau of Investigation chief James Comey from testifying before the Senate Intelligence Committee on Thursday. Assuming the oft-impulsive president doesn't change his mind, the report would seem to quash earlier caginess on the part of Kellyanne Conway and Sean Spicer regarding the issue. Mark Warner said Sunday that if President Donald Trump did in fact ask Comey to "in effect, back off of at least the investigation" into former National Security Adviser Michael Flynn, "it would be unthinkable".

Comey should shed more light on whether the president is the subject of an FBI investigation into Russian election meddling, Graham said.

Russia has repeatedly denied any effort to interfere in the United States election, but Russian President Vladimir Putin said on Thursday some Russians might have acted on their own without their government's involvement. The Post reported that Kushner is under investigation for the "extent and nature" of his interaction with Russian officials.

Comey plans to testify that Trump asked him to shut down an investigation of fired national security advisor Flynn.

Acting FBI Director Andrew McCabe and Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein also are expected to testify. He emphasized there was "zero evidence that Trump himself" took any such action and Mr. Comey should be honest with the American people.

"I don't believe he is", he said. Outside counsel did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Cavaliers romp over Warriors to avoid sweep
This was on display in the first three games when it surrendered a combined 99 points in transition to the Warriors . Golden State still have a two-game buffer and can claim the trophy at home on Monday (Tuesday, Singapore time).

However, Trump has publicly discussed his conversations with Comey before firing him last month - and legal experts have concluded that the president most likely, as such, has waived his ability to invoke privilege.

Republican Sen. Susan Collins of ME, also a member of the committee, said she had several questions for Comey in light of various public statements about the ongoing FBI probe, including Trump's claim that the FBI director had said that Trump was not the subject of an investigation.

Comey: Well, the assessment of the intelligence committee was, as the summer went on and the polls appeared to show that Secretary Clinton was gonna win, the Russians sort of gave up and simply focused on trying to undermine her. In a March hearing before the House Intelligence Committee, Comey for the first time announced the full scope of what had been known until then as the Russian Federation investigation.

"Well, this is just another load of nonsense", Putin said on NBC News' Sunday Night with Megyn Kelly, when asked whether he had any damaging information on the Republican president.

The case centered around special prosecutor Archibald Cox's demand that the White House hand over tapes of conversations between Nixon and his colleagues in the Oval Office with respect to the Watergate scandal.

"I want the truth", Franken said.
