Conservatives, DUP agree to 'confidence and supply' deal on government

British Prime Minister Theresa May on May 25

Labour won 262 seats - 30 more than they won in 2015 - while Conservatives won 318, 13 fewer than they started with.

The Conservatives lost an absolute majority they had enjoyed prior to the snap election on June 8, which May had called to strengthen her hand in the upcoming Brexit negotiations slated for June 19.

When no party gains more than half the seats, there is a situation of a "hung Parliament" and the need to create coalitions.

The Conservatives and the DUP, a socially conservative party that backed Brexit, are expected to work together on a vote-by-vote basis rather than enter a formal alliance.

Irish republican party Sinn Fein in Northern Ireland increased their seats by three to seven but do not take up their places in the London assembly.

Theresa May has been warned she will have to re-think her Brexit negotiating strategy following her humiliation at the ballot box. "Now let's get to work", she said. This means the kind of deal she seeks with the European Union will inevitably be softer, that person said, speaking on condition of anonymity. "She's attempting to form a government", he told the Sunday Mirror.

British Prime Minister Theresa May's office says the Democratic Unionist Party has agreed principles to support her Conservative minority government.

Asked Sunday if she is now just a caretaker leader, May noted that "I said during the election campaign that if elected I would intend to serve a full term". It would include accepting unlimited European immigration, the jurisdiction of the European Court of Justice, and the requirement to pay billions of pounds into the EU budget every year - all of which May promised voters she'd end.Pro-Brexit Conservative lawmaker Bernard Jenkin attacked his party colleagues who want to use May's weakness to dilute her vision of a clean break.

GST on set-top boxes & optic fibre down to 18%
Under the scheme, eligible traders, manufacturers and restaurants can pay 1-5% GST rate on their annual sales without tax credits. Their recommendations are being taken up by the council on Sunday. "There are two objectives behind this move", he said.

Sunday papers reported that Boris Johnson was being encouraged to make a leadership bid in an effort to oust Mrs May, claims strongly disputed by the Foreign Secretary. However, the Liberals led by Herbert Henry Asquith, won the largest number of seats.

SIEGEL: Given Theresa May's disastrous political miscalculation and her party's loss of a majority in the House of Commons, is she unlikely to remain prime minister much longer?

Six months ago, the woman who can decide the UK's future was fighting for her own political life having been accused of burning £400m of public money.

"It's an issue very close to my heart and one that I wanted categoric assurances from the prime minister on, and I received (them)", said Davidson, who is engaged to be married to her female partner.

If she is to succeed in delivering the wishes of 52% of the public and take Britain out of the European Union, she must find a way to secure the full support of her party to pass legislation preparing for and enacting the departure.

"The people of this country want control of their borders and an end to the disastrous policy of open-door immigration which has led to a rapidly-rising population, a funding crisis in health and education, pressure on housing and wages, and unsafe social alienation".

However some senior Tories said it would be unwise to change leadership with the new government in such a precarious position - risking a new election and undermining Brexit talks which are due to begin in just ten days.
