Daredevil Golden Gate Bridge video prompts security review

Duo's Golden Gate Bridge climb attracts federal attention

An 18-year-old high school student using the pseudonym Peter Teatime told the Independent Journal he has been climbing tall structures for years, but that the Golden Gate Bridge was the "coolest" so far.

As if standing at the height of 746ft wasn't enough of a thrill, the daring duo chose to dangle their entire bodies over the edge of one of the bridge's towers, with only their fingertips stopping them from making the long fall to the ground below.

A week before the landmark structure's 80th anniversary, a couple of miscreants scaled to the top of the Golden Gate Bridge and dangled off the cables. "These climbers' reckless actions could have caused immeasurable harm to those driving below".

Scouring the thick, red cables, Teatime and Rector sprinted up the bridge's frame, even stopping to do backflips and somersaults on the narrow "walkways".

Despite climbing the bridge - and trespassing near it - being completely illegal, Teatime still called his climb a "must-do".

The video received a stern rebuke Tuesday from Dennis Mulligan, general manager of the Golden Gate Bridge, Highway and Transportation District.

We wanted to know how they were able to get past security. Two US teens got their adrenaline kicking when they recently climbed the Golden Gate Bridge without any gear and the video has now gone viral.

Tillerson: We 'cannot reset' relations with Russian Federation
Well, Chuck, I think we have such a broad range of important issues that have to be addressed in the U.S. -Russia relationship. Asked what repercussions the Russians should face for interfering in the USA election, Tillerson did not offer any specifics.

Before performing a stunt, he said, they made sure the road was clear.

'But for any explorer the Golden Gate Bridge is an absolute must-do, as it's the tallest bridge in the U.S. and such an iconic structure, ' he said.

"The Golden Gate Bridge is not an amusement park ride", officials said during the press conference.

"In many areas where you could hurt the bridge, we have different types of sensors that trigger an alarm, there is an audible and then that camera pops up on the big screen".

Authorities are now looking at ways to safeguard the bridge as well as to boost security to ensure similar acts don't occur in the future, Locati said.

The teenager said he is willing to work with authorities to show them how he got access to the bridge, so they can improve security.

Locati said the bridge's security system was "not created to protect thrill-seekers from harming themselves".
