Search for Missing Plane Survivors Under Way After Debris Found Near Bahamas

The U.S. Coast Guard continues to search for a missing twin-engine plane that was en route from Puerto Rico to Titusville Fla., where it was to refuel before heading to New York City.

Miami Air Traffic Control lost radar and radio contact with the MU-2B airplane about 37 miles east of Eleuthera, Bahamas, at 2:10 p.m. Monday.

Customs and Border Patrol and the Royal Bahamas Defense Force are assisting in the search.

The passengers were identified as Jennifer Blumin and Nathan Ulrich of NY and Blumin's 4-year-old and 10-year-old sons.

According to the Coast Guard, watch standers received an alert at about 1:30 a.m. from the catamaran.

Blumin is the founder and chief executive of Skylight Group, a Manhattan firm that finds venues for top fashion shows.

In the search for the aircraft are a Coast Guard C-130 Hercules, MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter and a Cutter.

Nathan Ulrich, 52, was believed to be flying the plane when it disappeared.

The company confirmed she and members of her family were on the plane in a statement. Officials said it's unknown why the plane never made it to its destination.

The US Coast Guard said there was "no indication" of bad weather when the plane went missing.

The missing plane was traveling at a speed of about 300 knots and was 24,000 feet above the ground when it lost contact with air traffic control, the Coast Guard said. In a tweet, actress Rae Dawn Chong said he is her ex-husband.
