Warriors rally for 113-111 win after Spurs lose Leonard

Over in San Francisco on Monday morning, Spurs coach Gregg Popovich blasted Zaza Pachulia for what he called an "unsportsmanlike" closeout of a Kawhi Leonard shot, which resulted in a sprained ankle for the Spurs star. This is the second straight Spurs-Warriors meeting where the Dubs have stormed back after getting jumped on early by San Antonio.

The Spurs were still within one before Curry hit a 13-foot floater with nine seconds remaining to give Golden State a 113-110 lead. "It's unsafe, it's unsportsmanlike, it's just not what anybody does to anybody else", Popovich fumed. "It's just not what anybody does to anybody else".

"I have a lot of respect for coach Pop and the Spurs organization", Pachulia said.

"Huge", Spurs' veteran Manu Ginobili, asked to describe the loss of Leonard, said.

"This is the game of basketball, a lot of insane stuff happens on the court, unfortunately", he said. It's bad, and we hope he gets back soon, but I think it's a huge stretch to imply that Pachulia had any ill-intentions here. When you play this kind of physical game, intense game, things happen. I know how it feels.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 Review
Extremely simplistic in its approach, but driven by fantastic characters and how they interact with one another. I was excited for "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2" and fortunately the film exceeded my expectations.

If I am correct, Zaza and Kawhi were involved in the play and both of them are saying it was a clean play. I'm not a dirty player. The Spurs blowing a 25-point lead for the first and only time in 317 games they'd owned such an advantage with Popovich as their coach can do that to a guy.

One day later, Popovich was still fuming over the foul committed by Pachulia. "He didn't have intent, '" he said. Have you ever heard of manslaughter? "You still go to jail if you're texting and you kill somebody", Popovich fumed. I saw my teammate was behind the screen, and I had to challenge the shot. "All I care about is what happened and the history there exacerbates the whole situation and makes me very, very angry". The Warriors missed their first five 3-point attempts, and looked like a team coming out of a week off and psyched they didn't spend it in Utah. He said the criticism doesn't bother him, but he continued to stress he was making a basketball play.

Whether or not you think what Pachulia did was intentional, the sentiment is ultimately the same - it sucks that we're not going to see a 100 percent Kawhi Leonard (even when he does return) versus the Dubs. But if health is the priority, the league will have to bump up its toughness on these plays. "It's the playoffs. You've got to take a win any way you can get it". You go back and watch the film, they're both identical: "two guys shooting the ball, two big guys going out to contest, they slide under the shooter a little bit - neither one I think on objective - and one happens to land on one's foot and the other one doesn't".

San Antonio shot just 37 per cent after the injury, with twice as many turnovers as assists. Curry scored on an unbelievable layup that had absolutely no business going in, but San Antonio still had a shot in the closing seconds as LaMarcus Aldridge shot a three that missed, but Patty Mills ended up with two free-throw shots with less than a second on the clock.
