Raptors point guard Kyle Lowry gametime decision for Game 3 against Cavaliers

After back to back blowout losses, DeRozan can't wait to redeem himself

The 31-year-old all-star was hurt in Game 2 in Cleveland when Cavs forward Tristan Thompson shoved Toronto's Norm Powell, who hit Lowry sideways as he fell.

Despite trailing in the second half for the first time this series, and despite DeMar DeRozan scoring a playoff career-high 37 points, the Cleveland Cavaliers pulled away in the fourth quarter for a 115-94 win over the Toronto Raptors. It's not his fault, but the Raptors need him close to his best if they want to extend this series beyond four or five games. Toronto was blown out for the fifth straight time in Cleveland in the playoffs, losing each by an average of 24.2 points. "It's frustrating. Now just have the idle time of having to wait until (Game 3) Friday night to redeem yourself".

James appears to be on his way to his seventh straight NBA Finals. He contributed 14 points on 4 of 6 from behind the arc.

"He did miss six free throws", cracked Toronto's Kyle Lowry. LeBron went 15-of-16 from the charity stripe for the game, which is a huge plus given his struggles from the line this season. Kyle Lowry has scored 20 points on better than 50 percent shooting in each of the series' first two contests, and he could have a big game at home, where he shoots 46.4 percent from three-point range.

James top-scored once more for Cleveland, shooting 35 points.

Game 4 is Sunday night in Houston.

The Raptors didn't start Jonas Valanciunas, but he led them with 23 points. Regardless, he can't shoot 2-for-11 from the field and score just five points as he did in Game 2.

Lowry skipped the morning shootaround and planned to test his sprained left ankle before the Raptors tip off against the Cavs in Game 3 of the Eastern Conference semifinal. King James became the fourth player in league history to make 300 threes in the National Basketball Association playoffs and got a standing ovation and lively MVP chants as he headed to the bench with 39 points on 10-14 shooting.

Lowry missed 21 games late in the regular season after undergoing wrist surgery.

Irving's 3-pointer restored Cleveland's lead with 2:45 left in the half. He's halfway there, and the way the Cavs are playing, he could have No 4 before long.

Raptors coach Dwane Casey said his players should use James's behaviour as motivation. He meant in terms of energy, but Casey also started a smaller lineup, benching the 7-foot Valanciunas and forward DeMarre Carroll in favor of guard Norman Powell and forward Patrick Patterson.

"I was just basically in my zone, in my comfort zone and after I spun the ball and I jabbed him, I (saw) what I needed to see from the defender to be able to get that shot off", James said.

Cleveland hasn't really taken them seriously yet, but it hasn't mattered, because they have played so well.

"We gotta understand going to the fourth quarter, a championship team like that understands the moment", DeRozan said. Delon Wright's basket less than a minute into the quarter was Toronto's only field goal for nearly six minutes. "I believe in our guys, and I know there is another level we can get to".

It won't matter if James raises his, too. The Cavs were 41-of-75 from the field and 18-of-33 from 3-point land in the win.

"That's what he's here for", Cavs coach Tyronn Lue said of Korver.

DeRozan wound up playing 41 minutes and sat down with the game out of reach with three minutes to go. "And when Kyle gets hot, you've got to keep giving him the ball".
