FBI director 'feels nauseous' over Clinton emails

FBI director James Comey has insisted he was consistent in disclosing information about an investigation into Hillary Clinton's emails before Election Day while keeping quiet about a probe into possible contacts between Russian Federation and Donald Trump's campaign.

Mr Comey says it was one of the world's "most painful experiences" but said he'd still make the same call if he was in the same position again.

"The president tweeted the FBI Director gave Hillary Clinton a 'free pass for many bad deeds.' Is the President comfortable having an FBI Director that gives out free passes serve during his administration?" a reporter for the far right One American News Network asked.

But in October Comey wrote to Congress informing them the Federal Bureau of Investigation was reviewing new emails found on former Republican Senator Anthony Weiner's laptop, who was married to - and now separated from - top Clinton aide Huma Abedin.

The New York Times reported that Comey's "misgivings" about Lynch were fueled by the discovery past year of a document "written by a Democratic operative that seemed - at least in the eyes of Mr. Comey and his aides - to raise questions about her independence". "And I tried to be as complete and fair" as possible, Comey said.

Persistent questions from senators, and Comey's testimony, made clear that the FBI director's decisions of last summer and fall involving both the Trump and Clinton campaigns continue to roil national politics and produce lingering second-guessing about whether the investigations were handled evenly. Charles Grassley, R-Iowa, right, and the committee's ranking member Sen. But Comey said he would not tell her what he was planning to say.

Earlier in the day, Clinton discussed her 2016 election loss with CNN's Christiane Amanpour at a Women for Women International event in NY.

Luke Shaw's season could be over after suffering a badly bruised foot against Swansea, sources have told ESPN FC . Jamie Carragher questions Jose Mourinho's complaints about Manchester United's busy fixture schedule.

Hillary Clinton, the 2016 Democratic presidential nominee, said on Tuesday that the letter from Comey to congressional leaders played a large role in her defeat by President Donald Trump. Comey confirmed in March the FBI was investigating possible collusion between Trump surrogates and Russian Federation.

For Comey, Lynch's meeting with Bill Clinton was the last straw.

White House spokesman Sean Spicer ripped Hillary Clinton's claim that she would have won the 2016 election if it had been held on October 27, saying she did not get to determine election dates and that it was "somewhat sad" to still be litigating why Donald Trump won.

United States intelligence agencies in December accused Russian-backed hackers of interfering in the election to tarnish Clinton and the Democratic Party in a bid boost Trump's chances of victory.

"They work with us to try to accomplish their important First Amendment goals by safeguarding those interests", he said.

Comey was asked if he was looking into whether FBI agents may have leaked information about the Clinton investigation.

This story has corrected the Comey quote about feeling nauseous from "slightly" to "mildly".
