Braves Fans Share Excitement About New SunTrust Park

Brandon Phillips and Adonis Garcia gave the Braves the lead with back-to-back home runs, giving Atlanta a 4-2 advantage.

A sellout crowd will be watching when the Braves play their first regular-season game in SunTrust Park against San Diego on Friday night.

After a woeful start to the 2017 season, the Atlanta Braves have awakened and at least part of that rebound is due to the presence of the San Diego Padres.

Although Weaver has never faced Atlanta, two Braves have plenty of experience against him.

Julio Teheran will do the honor of starting SunTrust Park's first official game Friday night against the Padres. Cahill, who went 0-3 in 15 appearances with a 7.52 ERA for Atlanta in 2015, is 0-3 with an 8.47 ERA in five career games (three starts) and six homers allowed in 17 innings against the Braves. Freddie Freeman led the way heading into the weekend with 13 hits and seven runs, while Nick Markakis had logged 10 hits, five runs and five RBI in that span. Freeman and Markakis combined for two hits and one RBI on Saturday. During the second half of 2016, the Braves ranked fifth in the majors in runs per game (4.75), fourth in weighted on-base average (.339) and posted the ninth-lowest team strikeout rate (19.7 percent of their trips to the plate).

Tailgaters gathered to play games and enjoy food and beverages several hours before the first pitch. In short, Garcia needs to be better and San Diego's relatively impotent offense could be a cure.

Senators survive another OT to advance in National Hockey League playoffs
It's all been one-goal games so we know they're not going to give up and we're not going to give up either. Drew Stafford and Patrice Bergeron tallied for the Bruins , with Brad Marchand assisting on both goals.

The Atlanta Braves' new stadium is ready for its first real unveiling. The game kicks off at 7:30 PM EST in SunTrust Park, Atlanta.

The Braves see the complex as a place fans can be entertained before and after games.

"The thing was dancing around pretty good", Braves manager Brian Snitker said.

The homers by Renfroe and Hedges in the second inning were the first time the Padres went back-to-back this season and came after Dickey retired the first four batters. Kershaw (1-1, 3.46 ERA) and Los Angeles take on the Diamondbacks and Greinke (1-0, 2.31) in a four-game set.
