Russian bombers escorted off Alaska coast - again

Monday's incident marked the first time in nearly two years since Russian bombers last came so close to the American coast. On Wednesday, a Russian IL-38 maritime patrol and anti-submarine plane was spotted in the same area, and was followed by American planes. No U.S. aircraft were launched to meet them.

Indeed, both CNN and Fox News are sounding slight alarms over this show of force, which has been taking place as close as 35 miles from USA shores.

USA stealth fighters intercepted two Russian bombers Thursday night in global airspace near the Alaska coast, in the fourth encounter in as many days. The Russian planes remained in global air space the entire time.

On Monday, the USA intercepted Russian bombers 100 miles from Kodiak Island, Alaska.

The U.S. military says it intercepted two Russian bombers in global airspace off Alaska's coast.

Russian Federation periodically flies into the USA air defense identification zone that extends 200 miles off the coast.

Tennessee Unemployment Rate Falls to 5.1 Percent
With 26,700 more people employed and 7,900 more unemployed, the labor force increased by 34,500 people from February. The Kansas side of the Kansas City metropolitan area saw only a slight dip in its unemployment rate to 3.7 percent.

There was no bridge to bridge communication between the USA and Russian aircraft on Monday, but several US military officials told NBC News that the Russians acted "very professionally".

In both incidents, the U.S. Air Force did not scramble any fighter jets or airborne warning planes (AWACS).

USA officials told CNN this kind of "cat and mouse" interaction by the Russian air force is not unprecedented, but hasn't occurred since 2015.

There are reports of Russian bomber patrols along the West coast each of the past four nights, but this is not exactly the case. It was "an attempt to come up as close as they could to our global borders to see what our reaction would be".

"In support of air-to-ground operations, the Sentry can provide direct information needed for interdiction, reconnaissance, airlift and close-air support for friendly ground forces", the Air Force says on its website.
