VW's latest all-electric concept is a crossover

Automobiles of brand MG and Roewe from SAIC Motor are seen at SAIC's Lingang factory in Shanghai

Volkswagen stated it aims to fulfill upcoming hard quotas in China for selling more green vehicles on its own and would not turn to acquiring credits from rivals.

An electric vehicle with a big battery obviously offers more range, but at the same time, it takes longer to charge-making it hard to quickly refuel for road trips. The company says the SUV will have a top speed of about 180 kilometers per hour (112 mph) and a range of 500 kilometers, or about 311 miles.

Underpinning the latest Volkswagen concept vehicle is Volkswagen's modular electric architecture platform and a newly developed chassis that employs a MacPherson strut front and 6-link rear suspension with variable damping control. In order to attain this, they are providing new concepts shortly in market.

The I.D. Crozz Crossover concept will be compact looking and will have a lowered roofline than that of 2018 Tiguan.

China has aggressively promoted plug-in hybrid and battery electric cars, dubbed "new energy vehicles", to fight urban smog but is gradually phasing out subsidies in favor of hard requirements like quotas.

Like the other ID concepts, the Crozz is based on Volkswagen's new Modular Electric Drive Matrix (MEB), which allows the axle and drive system modules to be spread out, giving it a long wheelbase.

Once the vehicle is ready to move, passengers are greeted with a 360-degree light show where glass VW badges at the front and rear hatch light up in the brand's traditional blue and white. As with VW's other I.D. concepts, touching the VW badge at the center of the steering wheel causes it to retract into the dash, allowing for more space in the driver's compartment while the auto drives itself.

Spurs aiming to heap more pressure on Chelsea, says Kane
Manchester United's Zlatan Ibrahimovic in action with Chelsea's Gary Cahill during their Premier League match at the Old Trafford, April 16, 2017.

The CROZZ is the third in VW's I.D. series of planned 2020-era zero-emission vehicles. When this mode is activated by pushing the VW logo on the steering wheel for three seconds, said steering wheel retracts back flush with the dashboard.

Among the most outlandish propositions to be included in the Crozz include an augmented reality feed, which is meant to provide information to drivers in real-time. Furthermore, a new "CleanAir" filtration system ensures high air quality inside the vehicle - whatever the conditions outside.

Volkswagen said that using a 150 kW DC fast charger can produce an 80 percent recharge within 30 minutes. When you're driving, a panel of capacitative switches in the steering wheel controls gear selection, indicators, navigation, telephony and audio volume. They also create ambient lighting visible inside and out.

Unfortunately, the I.D. Crozz does resort to the same type of cutesy features (and branding) that other automakers have floated to appeal to so-called millennials.

The design language for the I.D. The I.D. Crozz will play a key role in that.

We can't wait. Hopefully, at the next big auto show, we can expect to see a Volkswagen that can even fly itself too.

The latest of Volkswagen's post-Dieselgate EV concepts takes the form of a contemporary styled CUV that sets out to combine the dynamic lines of a modern sports auto with the all-terrain capability of a dedicated off-roader.
