EPA moves to undo tougher pollution limits on coal plants

Scott Pruitt's visit to East Chicago, Indiana, came a day after the agency denied a report that it was considering closing its Chicago office, which oversees regional environmental protection efforts, including the Flint, Michigan drinking water clean-up and Great Lakes restoration.

She said her organization wants to see the EPA do more to protect the East Chicago community.

The private sector is set to get a big boost under this administration, and the latest talk to limit the power of the public sphere involves pushing legal consideration to outside counsel, potentially bypassing the influence of longtime EPA employees in favor of kowtowing to corporate concerns. Also, Trump has proposed cutting the EPA's budget by 31 percent, nearly one-third, and eliminating more than 3,200 jobs, about 20 percent of the agency's workforce of 15,000.

Residents of the housing complex in IN were joined by environmental activists as they protested nearby before Pruitt arrived.

An executive order (EO) issued by Trump on March 28 includes a directive for EPA to immediately review regulations on energy sources, and then to either suspend, revise or rescind them.

The president of the union that represents Environmental Protection Agency employees is making a pre-emptive strike against the agency after a report surfaced that the EPA plans to shutter a regional office in Chicago.

Happ (left elbow) on the 10-day disabled list before the game and recalled utilityman Ty Kelly from triple-A Buffalo. Right-hander Ben Taylor was recalled from Triple-A Pawtucket to take Rodriguez's roster spot for the game Monday.

Administrator Scott Pruitt will join IN leaders including Gov. Eric Holcomb IN East Chicago.

"They made pleas for assistance, for help", he said.

And though the administration lifted its hiring freeze for federal agencies, the EPA will keep its hiring freeze in place with limited exceptions and there may be "internal reassignments", according to the memo. Officials began evacuating the 45-year-old complex, built on a site previously occupied by a lead-products factory, after soil tests found some yards with lead levels over 70 times the USA safety standard. Housing officials said their goal is to move out all families by May.

"We can't drink the water".

Instead of an executive order rolling back regulations requiring corporations to prevent contaminating the air, water and soil, Trump should issue an executive order protecting the residents of "Main Street" who are dealing with the consequences of lax environmental regulations, Brooks said.

The head of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) toured his first hazardous waste site on Tuesday amid proposed budget cuts that could devastate efforts to clean up contaminated land and water around the country.
