Nintendo's New 'Zelda' for Switch Is Doing Better Than the Switch Itself

Research firm SuperData revealed today that its analysis shows that Nintendo has sold 2.4 million Switches during its first month of release. Considering that the console launched on March 3, that's 28 days of potential sales - approximately 33,000 consoles were sold each day, on average. Because of the fast start, SuperData said that it is revising its projected sales figures for 2017 to 7.2 million units sold, up from 5 million. With the NPD Group's March results nigh, the Nintendo Switch has become the Japanese giant's fastest selling console in the USA, with 906,000 units sold in March. Interestingly, this also makes The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild the fastest-selling Nintendo launch game of all time, in addition to being the fastest selling game in the Zelda series. Nintendo NTDOY also revealed that it sold more than 1.3 million The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild units to the USA during the month, including 925,000 copies for the Nintendo Switch.

Breath of the Wild's reported sales success doesn't come completely out of the blue.

Rumors surrounding the Mario Kart 8 Nintendo Switch preorder option circled the internet recently, but without a single mention from Nintendo during the Direct. Thus, the 2DS, which is one solid hunk of plastic that plays all 3DS games perfectly. The main sales driver was the highly anticipated The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, which reportedly sold 920,000 units just for the Switch, which gave the game and unbelievable attach rate of more than 100%.

This is according to Citigroup, Inc., which says the Switch is ultimately too bulky for children to use easily (via Bloomberg). One might even call them collectors, if you will.
