Shia board for anti-triple talaq law like one against sati

The executive meeting of the All India Muslim Personal Law Board is scheduled to be held at Nadwatul Ulama in Lucknow on 15-16 April

Bhubaneswar/Lucknow: Triple Talaq took center stage at the National Executive of the Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) in Bhubaneswar and All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) in Lucknow on Sunday with both looking determined to counter the menace - but using their own ways.

The court will hear pleas filed by several Muslim women challenging the practice under which men can divorce their wives instantly by uttering the word "talaq" thrice.

The board is issuing appeals to all maulanas and imams to read out the code of conduct during Friday namaz and emphasise on its implementation, he said.

The Board's Muslim Wing Head Dr Asma Zehra alleged that Muslim women have full faith in personal laws and the issue is hyped by some section of media.

The AIMPLB yesterday said that it had chose to issue a code of conduct for triple talaq.

The Union government had on 7 October previous year opposed in the Supreme Court the practice of triple talaq, nikah halala and polygamy among Muslims and favoured a re-look on grounds like gender equality and secularism.

Kalbe Sadiq, vice-president of the AIMPLB, had acknowledged that triple talaq was unfair to women.

PM launches Bhim Aadhar pay app
The Aadhaar Pay is the advanced version of the prior Aadhaar Enabled Payment System (AEPS), especially useful for merchants. The app is required to be downloaded only by those who will receive the payment, such as merchants or businesspersons.

Subjecting these people to social boycott would serve as a deterrence, the Board said.

The Supreme Court (SC) is now hearing a case on the constitutional validity of triple talaq, the Islamic practice some Muslims follow of divorcing their wife by pronouncing the word "talaq" three times.

In the past, AIMPLB claimed that it received 3.50 crore forms from Muslim women who apparently supported Shariyar and triple talaq.

AIMPLB Secretary Zafrab Jilani told ANI, "The schemes of the welfare of Muslims which were being carried out upto 2014, have been virtually stopped".

The signature campaign has revealed that majority of the Muslims in the country are against any change in their personal law, Rehmani said.

"We are carrying out counseling sessions in which we try to settle issues related to marriage/divorce through reconciliation and arbitration", said in-charge of the women's wing Asma Zehra.

The Allahabad HC ruled last December that triple talaq violates the equality of women as provided by the Constitution.
