5 things to know about April the giraffe and her calf

She tenderly licked her baby as it began to slowly pick its head up from the floor of the pen, with at least 1.2 million people watching the zoo's YouTube streaming of the event.

April, a 15-year-old giraffe kept in a U.S. zoo, gave birth to a calf on a live feed to an internet audience of over a million people yesterday.

April has her own website and even an apparel line.

Animal Adventure Park in Harpursville, N.Y. has devised a contest that begins immediately.

April's labour lasted about two hours, and was announced on Facebook by park owner Jordan Patch.

Giraffes have one of the longest gestation periods of any animal, about 15 months. The proud papa, a 5-year-old giraffe named Oliver, watched from an adjacent pen.

The latest craze featured April the Giraffe, an online sensation whose pregnancy has been a story of public interest for months.

Rian Johnson debuts teaser trailer for 'The Last Jedi'
But one of the things discussed in the panel was how small Tran's stature is in comparison to Boyega or Ridley. Ridley, Driver and Boyega all return for "Last Jedi", which opens December 15.

The park is now closed to the public and will open in mid-May. The gender of the calf was not yet known, and its name was to be determined through a competition run by the park.

A zoo spokesperson says the delivery could take all day Saturday.

Hundreds of thousands of viewers have watched the 15-year-old April since then, and more than a million people witnessed the birth on the livestream.

Although the official stats aren't in yet, April's calf likely stands about 6 feet tall and weighs between 100 and 150 pounds.

Once the calf is born, the Harpursville zoo in upstate NY will have a contest to name it.

Almost five millions viewers a day were watching the livestream at its peak, The New York Times reported.
