Average retail gasoline prices in IL rose 9 cents a gallon in the past week, averaging $2.52 on Monday, according to GasBuddy's daily survey of 4,378 gas outlets in IL.

Since 2000, this transition has led to an average price increase of 53 cents between early February and the seasonal peak, which most often occurs in late May, according to National Association of Convenience Stores. "Oil now stands $5 per barrel higher than just a few weeks ago and is the main culprit for rising gasoline prices", GasBuddy's DeHaan said. The national average has increased 9 cents during the past month and is 35 cents a gallon higher than one year ago. Average prices for regular rose by a nickel or more in a majority of states.

Wisconsin- $2.37/g, up 6.2 cents per gallon from last week's $2.31/g.

Anchorage- $2.73/g, up 8.5 cents per gallon from last week's $2.65/g.

Gas prices are rapidly rising locally and across the country, with only two states climbing at a faster rate than Florida. Oil prices hit a one-month high on Friday after the United States fired missiles at a Syrian government airbase, sending shockwaves through global markets and raising concerns that the conflict could spread in the oil-rich region.

On Tuesday, benchmark West Texas Intermediate crude oil rose 32 cents to close at $53.40 a barrel in NY, its sixth gain in a row.
