Hinchcliffe Captures Long Beach

Enjoy tomorrow's sunny 82 degrees because more rain is on the way to L.A

The victory is Hinchcliffe's first on a temporary street course since his maiden win at St. Petersburg in 2013.

Sebastien Bourdais is now the hottest driver in the Verizon IndyCar Series.

- The three-day 43rd annual Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach begins Friday with qualifying for IMSA sports auto and new Can-Am races, the start of the drifting competition and practice for three other races.

James Hinchcliffe is Canadian, but his victory Sunday in the Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach felt like a homecoming.

The Andretti Autosport racer had been very competitive throughout the 85-lap race, leading 28 laps altogether before losing that advantage to Hinchcliffe during their final round of pit-stops.

WHO HAD A BAD RACE: Andretti Autosport: four cars, four mechanical DNFs in a very weird race for them after a solid qualifying effort.

Hinchcliffe's last win came at NOLA Motorsports Park in April 2015, a month before the crash caused when a suspension piece on the vehicle broke at 220-plus miles per hour on the Indianapolis Motor Speedway oval.

Hinchcliffe said winning a race "was goal number one when we set out at the start of the season". He also was third in the point standings a year ago despite being winless.

"I guess I remembered how to drive; and I guess this team remembered how to do it", Johnson said.

Truly anything is possible at the Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach.

North Korea calls US strikes on Syria 'unforgivable'
It was the first direct US assault on the Russian-backed government of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad in six years of civil war. A senior intelligence official told the network that he doubted US and China could find a diplomatic solution to the crisis.

"After Indy and personally me for Toronto, this is the biggest one to win", Hinchcliffe said.

"Huge credit to the crew to get us fast enough".

"This place has a lot of history, that's what drivers really care about".

"The greatest of the greats have won here", Schmidt Peterson Motorsport driver Hinchcliffe said. "We got the pole at one (Indy), a podium at the other and now we win the third". Behind him by 1.49 seconds was Sebastien Bourdais with Josef Newgarden taking third.

The first to fall was Michael Andretti, who stalled his No. 27 on lap 14 and cited a sensor issue as the culprit.

The race went caution free after that until 2016 Indy 500 victor Alexander Rossi (#98 NAPA Auto Parts Andretti/Herta Autosports) suffered a mechanical failure on lap 63 where he was running a strong third. "I don't know if we've ever had a moment as cool as that", Craig said. The track has been repaved and it will be the first time an Indy vehicle has tested there so it's an important test. I think it puts an exclamation point on the fact that we're back and we're as good as ever.

"We had a good start", said Bourdais. That's why this sport can be so rewarding and so cruel, there's nothing you can do.

"I was kind of thinking championship out there". Further contact occurred between JR Hildebrand and Mikhail Aleshin in that period, Aleshin later docked a position for the contact. IndyCar will take next week off, then return for Phoenix and Barber Motorsports Park before the attention turns to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway for the month of May.

One theme touched on by the drivers was how competitive this IndyCar field is these days. It was pretty hard to pass at the end, which is typical for street races as we all know. He hit the brake a lot earlier than I was expecting and I ended up running into the back of him. Then came contender Alexander Rossi, who suffered an obvious engine failure on his No. 98 on lap 62 from inside the top 5. Grand Prix officials announced in March 2016 they discontinued the event with last year's race.
