SCOTS are being urged to join a global effort to talk more openly about depression as part of this year's World Health Day.

"The continuing stigma associated with mental illness was the reason why we made a decision to name our campaign Depression: Let's talk", she said.

Cambodians lack awareness of depression and have negative views of people with mental illnesses in comparison with other countries in the region, according to a Health Ministry report.

She said that this condition at worst, could lead to suicide, which was the second leading cause of death in 15 to 29 year olds globally. Treatment usually involves either a talking therapy or antidepressant medication or a combination of these.

"Depression: let's talk" says WHO, as depression tops list of causes of ill health.

The goal is to encourage sufferers to talk about their experience, and to seek help.

He added that only a small number of Vietnamese people with depression is provided with the treatment following their medical check-ups.

The total estimated number of people living with depression increased by 18.4 per cent between 2005 and 2015, it said.

Russian Federation challenges Trump after Syria chemical attack
Turkey reacted by sending ambulances from southern Turkey to the town, transferring 32 wounded Syrians to a medical facility. Russian diplomats submitted their own draft resolution regarding an investigation into Tuesday's attack, Interfax reported.

"Today, 4.4 per cent of the world's population is suffering from depression". We also know that feeling connected to others in positive ways - through talking and spending time together - lowers the risk of depression and suicide-the most tragic outcome of depression. "You have to seek professional help when you are depressed", he said.

But, taking care of your mental health is just as important as taking care of your physical health. According to World Health Organization, depression is "persistent sadness and a loss of interest in activities that people normally enjoy, accompanied by an inability to carry out daily activities for two weeks or more".

"Investment in mental health makes economic sense".

Mrs Margret Udoh, Board member of the GAMHA made the called at a press conference on Thursday in Abuja, ahead of the World Health Day 2017, on April 7. Dr. Al-Zayed noted that women are more susceptible to depression than men due to hormonal changes but when both genders reach the age of 50 they are equally exposed to the illness.

The report then goes on to identify the two main sub-categories: major depressive disorders, which are severe and intense; and dysthymia, which is a chronic form of mild depression.

An illness that needs to be given special attention and support, depression can be prevented by maintaining a healthy lifestyle that includes having a balance diet, enough rest/sleep and by managing stress.

Mental health services are also being provided in some countries by non-specialist general practitioners under the supervision of national specialists, trained through the WHO Mental Health Gap Action Programme, introduced in more than 90 low- and middle-income countries around the world.
