New health care bill faces concern from Virginia hospitals

The American Health Care Act is being pushed by President Donald Trump's administration and House Speaker Paul Ryan as the Republicans' long-promised replacement to the Affordable Care Act, which is commonly known as Obamacare.

Tens of thousands of Nebraskans would be among the 24 million Americans projected by the Congressional Budget Office to lose their health coverage in the next decade.

Fitzpatrick, a Republican who represents the 8th District, says the main reason he can not vote for the bill is that it does not adequately address opioid abuse.

Such a policy change fails to take into consideration that a typical older American seeking private health insurance has a median annual income of under $25,000.

The new Republican health-care plan includes tax cuts for the rich that would be offset by substantially reducing subsidies to the poor for purchasing insurance and taxing the health care premiums of the working class. Credits phase out for those earning over $75,000 in annual income or $150,000 for married couples.

United States troops injured as Afghan soldier opens fire inside base
In May previous year , gunmen wearing Afghan military uniforms shot dead two Romanian soldiers in neighbouring Kandahar province. The injured American troopers are receiving medical treatment, the NATO-led Resolute Support mission said.

Beyond the statistics produced by the Children's Defense Fund, Sara Collins, vice president for health care coverage and access at the Commonwealth Fund in Manhattan, said the Republican measure takes away advantages that are part of the Affordable Care Act. In 10 years before ACA, the average cost of employer-provided family plans rose from $5,790 to $13,375. The bill would impose an "age tax" on older Americans. Insurance for younger New Yorkers would likely become less expensive, while older ones would pay much more. Failing that, we should provide financial help to those who are just above the poverty level and who have faced huge increases in the price of insurance.

The plan unveiled by House leaders would presumably be less draconian, but the winners and losers in the GOP's political game may not change much. For example, a 60-year-old with $20,000 in annual income would receive nearly $10,000 in ACA subsidies compared to $4,000 from the Republican plan, according to the Kaiser Family Foundation.

Appearing on the PBS Newshour with Judy Woodruff on Tuesday night, Yoho, the vice-chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, said he could not support the AHCA as it now is. Of course, not having health insurance sucks, too. Mandatory coverage meant more customers.

"While we have performed better than many of our competitors, it is increasingly hard to remain in the exchange market under its current structure", Swedish said. The ACA does need reforms but Republicans have ignored this avenue for years. That plan had only two worthwhile features and in the end, one of them was flawed.
